Welcome To The Auction!

Nine month old Will James has been diagnosed with a rare immunodeficiency called HLH. What was thought to be a normal viral induced fever which lasted unusually long has turned into something much worse. Because the disease is relatively new from a research perspective (1985) and causes as well as symptoms are still being discovered, many cases go undiscovered. It is very rare (1 in a million) but may prove more prevalent as physicians, parents and the public become more familiar with HLH symptoms. Essentially Will’s immune system is stuck in "fight off" mode even if the virus that may have triggered it has already passed. This causes high toxicity in his body, leading to anemia, inflammation & organ failures.

Will has already had his first chemo treatment.  His immune system needs to be completely wiped out and given a chance to start fresh .During the course of his initial treatment (8-10 weeks) he will be supported by many blood products. Will has already had several blood products that have given him the chance to fight HLH. It is possible he will need 100 or more as his road may require a bone marrow transplant.

In support of Will and his family we are holding this online auction to raise money to ease the financial strain during Will’s care at the IWK.

We would also ask everyone to consider blood donation and bone marrow registration which could help Will find a local donor match. https://www.blood.ca/en/stem-cell/onematch-information-new-registrants

Thank you for your consideration.
